Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy — Privacian Extension
Effective date: September 28, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how Privacian ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, stores, and deletes information when you use the Privacian Chrome extension (the “Extension”). This policy is written to meet Chrome Web Store requirements for transparency about what data the extension accesses and sends off the user’s device.
By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the terms below.
1. Summary (short version)
-
You control what text is monitored for unsafe content in supported platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude.ai, Slack, Microsoft Teams).
-
The Extension does not collect your passwords, private messages, or login credentials.
-
Unsafe content is detected locally in your browser; optionally, user-added unsafe words are stored in Chrome’s local storage.
-
The Extension only sends minimal data (optional analytics or error logs if implemented in the future) and does not send user messages or content to our servers unless you explicitly configure it.
2. What information we collect
A. Local monitoring
-
The Extension monitors text input fields only when the Extension is active and the user types or pastes text.
-
Unsafe words or patterns are checked against:
-
Predefined lists fetched from our backend
-
User-added unsafe words stored in Chrome local storage
-
B. User-supplied data
-
User-added unsafe words you input in the popup.
-
Toggle state for enabling/disabling the Extension.
C. Optional logging (local)
-
The Extension may log events for blocked input (displayed in the popup logs).
-
Logs are stored locally in Chrome and not transmitted externally unless you choose to share them.
3. How and why we use your data (purposes)
-
Safety enforcement: Block unsafe content before it is submitted in supported platforms.
-
User customization: Store your added unsafe words locally.
-
Local troubleshooting: Display blocked input notifications and logs in the popup.
We do NOT:
-
Collect messages or content without your action.
-
Sell or share your data with advertisers.
4. Where data is sent and who processes it
-
Unsafe word lists are fetched securely via HTTPS from
https://socialmediascreenerapp.vercel.app/api/unsafe-words. -
All monitoring of user text is performed locally in your browser.
-
Optional logs remain local unless you manually export or share them.
No user passwords, OAuth tokens, or private messages are sent to our servers.
5. Data retention and deletion
-
User-added unsafe words and toggle states are stored in Chrome local storage indefinitely until manually deleted.
-
Logs displayed in the popup are temporary and stored locally; you can clear them by closing the browser or removing them in the popup.
-
To delete user-added words, simply remove them from the popup interface.
6. What the Extension does NOT collect
-
Social media or platform login credentials.
-
Private messages or account content.
-
Continuous browsing history.
-
Any content outside user input fields on supported platforms.
7. Chrome permissions and why we need them
-
activeTab: Required to monitor text input on the currently active tab when the Extension is enabled.
-
storage: To save toggle state and user-added unsafe words.
-
scripting: To dynamically inject monitoring scripts into supported platforms.
-
host permissions: Required only for domains where unsafe word lists are fetched (
https://socialmediascreenerapp.vercel.app/*).
The Extension only accesses text when you type or paste in an input field; no background surveillance occurs.
8. Security measures
-
All external requests (e.g., unsafe word lists) use HTTPS.
-
User data (toggle state, custom words) is stored locally in Chrome storage.
-
Only necessary scripts have access to monitored input fields.
-
While we take reasonable steps to secure data, no method is 100% secure.
9. Your rights
-
Access & rectification: You can view or modify your user-added unsafe words in the popup.
-
Deletion: Remove words via the popup interface to erase them from Chrome storage.
-
